KB1143 - Moodle Mobile App: Getting Started
Posted by John Love, Last modified by John Love on 16 November 2017 10:58 AM

The Moodle Mobile app is the official mobile app for Moodle. Although VCC's Moodle service works well on the smaller screens of mobile devices, accessing it using a dedicated app on your smartphone or tablet has certain advantages.

Why use the Moodle Mobile App?

  • Easily access your VCC courses from anywhere.
You don't need to login to Moodle each time, and you can even view content when you're offline.

  • Easily upload photos, video, audio or other files to your Moodle Private Folder.
This makes it easier to Students to submit coursework, or for Faculty/Staff to add new course content - in just a few steps.

Installation

It is free and available for download for Apple iOS, Android, or Windows mobile devices.

Adding Your Moodle Account

The first time you open the app after installation, you will be prompted to enter your Moodle Site Address.

Enter this: moodle.vcc.ca

...and hit Enter or click the "Connect!" button.

If the connection to the Moodle server was successful, you will be asked to enter your Moodle Username and Password.
This is the same information that you use to access Moodle using a web browser.

After this, you will be shown the "My courses" screen:

The iOS version of Moodle Mobile App.

If you click the "three lines" icon in the top-left corner, you will see a vertical menu appear on the left:

The iOS version of Moodle Mobile App.

From this menu, you can access all the features of the app. (Close the menu by clicking the "three lines" icon again.)

On the right-hand side, you can  see the courses you are enrolled in.

Accessing a Course: The Essentials

To enter a course, click on the course name (e.g. "A Moodle Demonstration Course") or on the Course Contents icon underneath.

Participants will show you a list of the other Moodle users who are enrolled in the course.

Grades will show you your Grades.

Notes is not configured for Student use: when clicking this icon, Students will get a message saying "you do not currently have permissions to do that". Teachers will be shown the Notes page, and be able to select from Site, Course, or Personal Notes.
