KB1144 - Moodle Mobile App: Accessing Courses
Posted by John Love, Last modified by John Love on 16 November 2017 10:57 AM

The Moodle Mobile app is the official mobile app for the Moodle LMS. Although VCC's Moodle service works well on the smaller screens of mobile devices, accessing it using a dedicated app on your smartphone or tablet has certain advantages.

If you haven't yet installed the Moodle Mobile app, please refer to these articles first:

The Main Menu

After logging in, you will be shown the "My courses" screen:

The iOS version of Moodle Mobile App.

If you touch the "three lines" icon in the top-left corner, you will see a vertical menu appear on the left:

The iOS version of Moodle Mobile App.

From this menu, you can access all the features of the app. (Close the menu by touching the "three lines" icon again.)

On the right-hand side, you can  see the courses you are enrolled in.

Accessing a Course:

To enter a course, touch the course name (e.g. "A Moodle Demonstration Course") or on the Course Contents icon underneath.

The iOS version of Moodle Mobile App.

Contents will open the selected course.

Participants will show you a list of the other Moodle users who are enrolled in the course.

Grades will show you your Grades.

Notes is not configured for Student use: when using this icon, Students will get a message saying "you do not currently have permissions to do that". (Teachers will be shown the Notes page, and be able to select from Site, Course, or Personal Notes to create a note.)

Student Self-enrolment

In the Mobile app, Students can use an Enrollment Key (usually provided by their Instructor or program) to self-enroll in an online VCC course.

Search for the course you want to access:

  • Touch the search icon (Magnifying glass icon) in the upper-right corner of the"My courses" screen.
The iOS version of Moodle Mobile App.
  • A "Search" field will appear. Enter the name of a course into the "Search" field, and touch the "Search" button.
  • A list of matching courses should appear. Touch the name of the course you want from the list.
  • A screen showing details of your selected course will appear. Under "Student self-enrolment", touch the "Enrol me" button, and "OK" to confirm that you wish to enrol.
  • A "Self-enrollment" dialog window will appear. In the "Enrollment key" field, enter the Enrollment key that was provided to you by the college, and touch the "Enrol me" button.
  • If your enrollment key was correct and if the course is currently accepting enrollments, you should now be able to enter the course.
