Teaching with Moodle: An Introduction is a free course for anybody who wants to use the Moodle learning platform for teaching, whether it be in a school, a university, a company or just personal interest!

Designed to provide a good foundation and context to Moodle, the course covers the basics of the open source (and free!) learning platform, including how to set up and effectively use Moodle in teaching. The course features:

  • Structured, easy to understand content
  • Live webcast tutorials each week
  • Activity-based learning where participants create their own courses
  • Grading tools, creating activities such as quizzes, wikis, forums and chats, as well as student management
  • You can progress through most of the course at your own pace, but please be aware that there are some group activities

Duration: 4 weeks; expect to spend 2 to 3 hours a week

This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) has over 7000 users, from all levels of Moodle experience from absolute beginner to helpful expert (which makes for a lot of chatter in the discussion forums).

The online assignments are geared for beginners, with lots of supporting text and demonstration videos. This is a well-designed and comprehensive course that will help beginners and intermediate-level users learn about the features of Moodle 2.5.

A couple of us in CID are enrolled in this Moodle MOOC. You get digital badges as you progress through the activities, which are kind of fun and motivational.
